Enable Windows 2000 to handle Japanese

There are just 3 things to do when you enable Windows 2000 English version to handle Japanese.

Click Start button, Click Setting menu, Click Control Panel

Control Panel window appears. Double-click Regional Options icon.

If you find "regional settings" in stead of "regional options", your PC is not Windows 2000 but Windows 95/98/Me.

Following 3-step actions happen in this Regional Options window.

Step 1

Click General tab.

In Language setting for the system area, find Japanese check box then check it.

Click Apply button. You will need to insert Windows 2000 CD.

Windows 2000 will ask you to restart PC, but say No and continue to Step 2.

Step 2

Click Input Locales tab.

In Installed input locales area, click Add button.

New window appears. Select Japanese then click OK button.

New window disappears. You add Japanese in Input Language field.

Select Japanese and click Set as Default... button.

Click Apply button. Windows 2000 will ask you to restart PC, but say No and continue to Step 3.

Step 3

Click General tab again.

In Language setting for the system area, click Set default... button.

Select Japanese in new windows. then click OK button.

Windows 2000 will ask you to restart PC and say Yes.

These 3-step actions won't change your Windows 2000's appearances.
Start menu is still English. My Documents icon is still English. But after restart, your PC can handle Japanese. You can read, write and print Japanese completely.
